FatherJohn Larimer1 b. bet 1815 - 1818, d. 9 Jun 1859
MotherSarah (?)1 b. abt 1825
BirthCircacirca 1846 Charity M Larimer was born in Virginia circa 1846.1
Marriage29 Dec 1868 She married Alfonzo G. Parris on 29 Dec 1868 in Washington County, Virginia.2
Cens-187021 Sep 1870 A year and a half after their marriage Charity and Alfonzo were enumerated living in Glade Spring township with their first child, Alonzo, who was born the previous January.3
Cens-18802 Jun 1880  Over the next 10 years 5 additional children were added to the family. The 1880 census clarified that Alfonzo worked as a brick mason. It also recorded the fact that neither Charity or Alfonzo could read or write.4
Charity appears to have died sometime between 1888 when she gave birth to daughter Maggie, and 1900 when the census recorded John (in the household of their son John W.L.) as widowed.5

Research Comment:

The abstracted Washington County marriage records contain an entry for a "Lonzo" Parris who married a Virginia Sutton in Sept. 1871. The groom's place of birth and parents are the same as those recorded on Alfonzo and Charity's 1868 marriage entry. This led me to believe that Charity died shortly after the 1870 census and that Alfonzo remarried. However, that was clearly not the case as the 1880 census shows. When I discovered that Alfonzo and Charity named their first son Alonzo I took another look at the "Lonzo" marriage record. I now realize that Alfonzo probably had a brother Alonzo and that the "Lonzo" on the 1871 record was short for Alonzo, not Alfonzo.6,2
