He owned land valued at $3,500, and personal property worth $1,500. Nancy was 34. Recorded with them were James (15), Holbert (12), Williamson (f. 8) and Martha E. (5).4 
Cens-18801 Sep 1880  Ten years later William's age was again listed incorrectly. This time he was recorded as 50. Nancy was 44. Holbert, "Willie" and Martha were again enumerated and 3 additional children had been added to the family.5 
Religion He was a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.6 
Death13 Aug 1893 William died from typhoid fever on 13 Aug 1893 at age 66.3,6 
Burial He was buried at Mt. Paran Cemetery in Madison County, Alabama.3 

Research Comment:

A Sons of the Confederacy marker at William's grave states he served with Co. F. of the 18th Alabama Infantry and refers to him as Col. Davis. However the only candidate in the Compiled Service Records for the 18th Alabama was a William N. Davis who enlisted Aug. 2, 1861 at Butler County and who died at home on June 18th, 1862. Can anyone shed light on this marker?7
