  Mary and John had at least 6 children together before John's death (which appears to have occurred between 1870 and 1880). However, 3 children died young: James and Bettie within 2 weeks of each other in August 1862, and 1 year old Jennie Cora who died in 1870, sometime after the census was enumerated in June of that year. 
Cens-188012 Jun 1880 By 1880 Mary, along with son Samuel and daughter Martha, lived with Mary's uncle Robert Grant in the Abingdon district of Washington County. Ironically Robert was employed as a dentist, as had been Mary's husband John [other records list him as a physician].4 
Death28 Oct 1892 Mary died on 28 Oct 1892 at age 64.3 
Burial She was buried at East Hill Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.3
