Birth18 Jan 1838 William Buchanan Kelly was born on 18 Jan 1838 near Kelly's Chapel in Washington County, Virginia.1,4 
Military William served in Company F. of the 37th Virginia Infantry during the Civil War. He enlisted in June 1861 and was wounded at Kernstown March, 23, 1862.1,5,6 
Marriage14 Feb 1867 He married Julia Elizabeth Lowry, daughter of John Montgomery Lowry and Elizabeth Graham, on 14 Feb 1867 in Washington County.1,2 
Cens-190021 Jun 1900 At the turn of the century William and Julia were recorded in the Abingdon District of the county. Six of their 7 surviving children lived at home (the census entry indicated 2 children were deceased). Although William described himself as a farmer at least 2 of his children were employed in town. Grace worked as a school teacher and Robert was a bank clerk. The household also included 2 of Julia's brothers: William Lowry, 58, who served as the clerk of the Court of Appeals, and John Lowry, 51, who was the Justice of the Peace. Both men were single.7 
  William and Julia's 3 sons, James, Lowry and Robert, all married, but their 4 daughters chose to remain single and are buried with their parents at Bethel Cemetery. 
Death9 Jul 1919 William died on 9 Jul 1919 at age 81.4 
Burial He was buried at Bethel Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.4
