Birth28 Oct 1873 William King Oscar Ryburn was born on 28 Oct 1873 in Tennesee.2,1
Childhood William spent his childhood in Sullivan County, Tennessee, where as a young adult he taught in the local schools.3,2
Marriagecirca 1908 He married Sue Owen circa 1908.4
Cens-191026 Apr 1910  William and Sue spent the first years of their marriage in Black Walnut District, Halifax County, Virginia, where William taught high school.4
The family stayed in Virginia through at least the Spring of 1917 as all of their children were recorded on later census records as having been born in Virginia.
Cens-19208 Jan 1920 However by 1920 they had moved to Rowan County, North Carolina. William was enumerated twice in 1920. The first record was dated Jan. 8th and lists the family at 328 Paul St. in Salisbury. William was working as a garage manager. Besides William and Sue, two sons, 4 year old William and 2 year old Samuel were recorded.5
Cens-19204 Feb 1920 On Feb. 4th the family was enumerated again. The address, though not clear, was not on Paul street so it appears they had moved in the intervening weeks. This time William's occupation was listed as "laborer on automobiles", and William Jr. was listed as a 5 year old and Sam was listed as a 3 year old, although I don't believe either of them had celebrated birthdays since the January enumeration.6
Cens-193011 Apr 1930 Ten years later the family had moved once again, although they were still living in Salisbury. William was now 56 years old and Sue was 48. They owned their own home which was valued at $15,000; they also reported that they owned a radio (one of the 1930 census questions). William was employed as an "automobile agent". Also in the home were their sons William and Samuel, as well as a niece, Lousie Wohlford, age 27. She was teaching school. Louise was the daughter of William's sister Rowetta, who had died in 1921. A Jennie McCutcheon, age 26, was enumerated as a lodger.7
Death19 May 1949 William died on 19 May 1949 in Salisbury, North Carolina, at age 75.
