Birth-Saybetween 1800 and 1805 Richard Clarkson was probably born between 1800 and 1805. 
12 Feb 1824  He may have been the Richard Clarkson who married Betsy Brunt in Howard County, Missouri in 1824.2 
Relationship  Richard may have been the father of the Lucy A. F. Clarkson who married Mathew R. Buchanan. 
Death1846 Richard died in 1846 in Scotland County, Missouri.1 
Will-Recd11 May 1846 Richard's will was recorded on 11 May 1846 in Scotland County, Missouri. It mentioned his son William S. Clarkson and his wife Elizabeth. It also referred to "other children" but did not name them.1 

Research Comment:

Richard's will, or guardianship reports created between 1855 and 1865, identify the names of 4 of Richard's children: William (named in will), George, Nancy and Sarah (all underage in 1855). Their approximate years of birth have been identified on later census records. In addition, 3 other children who appear in Scotland County (either on their own or in relative's households) were probably Richard's children: Lucy (b. 1828), John (b. abt 1827) and Prescilla (b. abt 1836).3
Six years before his death Richard was enumerated as head of the household on the 1840 census of Howard County, Missouri. Numbers in various age columns suggest the possible make up of the household and are consistent with the family make up as suggested above. However, please NOTE: the names in [ ] are my suggestions; only the head of the household was actually named: 1 M (5-10) [George]; 1 M (10-15) [John]; 1 M (15-20) [Wm Samuel]; 1 M (30-40) [Richard]; 2 F (under 5) [Prescilla and Nancy J.]; 1 F (10-15) [Lucy]; 1 F (30-40) [wife]. The youngest daughter, Sarah E., was not born until after the census.4
In 1850 4 year old Sarah E. Clarkson was living in the household of her older brother William and his wife, Mary Ann Buchanan. Nancy Jane Clarkson (age 12) was living in the household of 23 year old John Clarkson. And 14 year old Prescilla Clarkson was living in the household of Mathew (age 25) and Lucy Buchanan [Mathew Buchanan married Lucy Clarkson in Howard County, Missouri in 1845]. Prescilla was most likely the same person as the 25 year old female recorded in 1860 as Barcella Hendricks. She was living in the home [and appears to be the wife of] Presley Hendricks. Also in the home was 15 year old S.E. Clarkson. Presley Hendricks was Sarah Clarkson's guardian from the mid 1850s through 1865. A 6 year old child, John Hendricks, was also enumerated with John and Barcella in 1860. One might theorize then that Prescella/Barcella Clarkson married Presley Hendricks around 1853 (explaining why she did not appear on the 1855 guardian report) and that Presley then became the guardian of Prescella's younger sister, Sarah.5,6,7,3
