BirthMay 1893 Walter Dennis Gardner was born on the 25th or 26th of May 1893 near Granbury in Hood County, Texas.1,4,2 
Cens-191019 Apr 1910  Walter's mother moved to Walnut Springs in Bosque County around 1907, taking Walter's younger brother Toby with her. However, Walter and his brother Edwin remained in Hood County, where they were recorded living in Granbury with their father. Walter, at 17, was employed doing "odd jobs."5 
MilitaryJun 1917  Walter registered for the World War I draft in Hood County in June 1917. He stated that his occupation was farming and handling stock and listed his father as his closest relative. Walter apparently was drafted as his headstone bears a WWI insignia.6,4 
Cens-1920  Following the war Walter returned to Hood County, where he was enumerated twice on the 1920 census. On January 14th he was recorded as an employee of Margurete Johnson [his father's sister] and 2 weeks later he was recorded in his father's household in Granbury, along with his sister Maggie Ker and her family. In both instances he was working as a farmer or stock laborer.7,8 
Cens-19308 Apr 1930  Walter Sr. died in 1924 following which the younger Walter moved to Walnut Springs in Bosque County and joined his mother. He was 36, single, and employed as a machinist helper in the railroad shops.9 
  Walter later married; at the time of his death he was employed as a grocer.3 
Death27 Jan 1967 Walter died on 27 Jan 1967 in Granbury at age 73.4,3 
Burial He was buried at Granbury Cemetery in Hood County, Texas.4
