Birth13 Mar 1824 Philip Buchanan was born on 13 Mar 1824.3 
Legatee22 Oct 1826  Philip's father Moses Buchanan left the family farm to Philip's brothers Hastings, Mathew and John. Philip received a share in the balance of his estate and a share in the income from the hiring out of several slaves.1 
Fath-Death8 Apr 1827  Moses Buchanan died when Philip was barely 3 years old. 
Ward22 Nov 1841 On 22 Nov 1841 Philip and his brother Moses were named wards of Washington J. Bishop.4 
Cens-Sum  Philip does not appear to have married. Instead he remained on the family farm which he no doubt ran with his mother, who died in 1861.5,6 
Devisee  Her will, written in early 1858, left the farm to Philip along with the rest of her estate. He was to pay each of his siblings $5.00.2 
Cens-18808 Jun 1880  Later in life Philip lived with William H. Buchanan, the son of his deceased brother James.7 
Death1 Oct 1884 Philip died on 1 Oct 1884 at age 60.3 
Burial He was buried at Moore Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.3

  1. [S618] Moses Buchanan will (exhibited 21 June 1827/ 17 Jul. 1827), Washington Co., Virginia, Will Book 5: 356. The will was written 22 Oct. 1826. It mentioned wife Joanna, sons Hastings, Mathew, John, James, Philip and daughters Margaret, Elizabeth and Jane (Buchanan); also brother William and youngest child Moses Campbell Buchanan. The witnesses were James Edmondson and Samuel Edmondson. As no executor was named Joanna Buchanan was appt administrix. She posted bond in the amt of $5,000 with William Buchanan, John Katron, Robert Keys and James Edmondson providing security.
