Cens-18701870  Missouri lived in the home of Joseph Hutton and his third wife, Mary Ryburn Hutton in 1870 in Washington County, Virginia. The census listed her occupation as "housekeeper."7 
Marriage18 Nov 1875 She married James Dixon Hutton, son of Arthur Hutton and Eleanor Snodgrass, on 18 Nov 1875 in Washington County, Virginia.8 
  James was Joseph Hutton's brother. James was 51; Missouri was 27.7 
Cens-18802 Jun 1880  James and Missouri were enumerated in 1880 in the Glade Spring District of Washington County with a son, Arthur 3, a daughter, Mary [Kate?], 2, and a son John, nine months, as well as 2 servants.9 
  They lived in a large brick home known today as the Hutton Plantation. Built by James' father, it sat on land acquired by James' great grandfather, John Hutton, in 1792. 
Cens-190019 Jun 1900 In 1900 Missouri was enumerated on her own and listed as a widow [James died in 1887]. Arthur, Kate [Mary?] and John were still at home, as well as three siblings born after 1880: Thomas, 18, Christina 17, and Margie, 13. The census entry stated that Missouri was the mother of 7 children, 6 of whom were living.2 
Cens-193010 Apr 1930  In 1930 just Missouri (81) and her daughter Christine (46) lived together in the large house.6 
The home known as Hutton Plantation. Built by Arthur Hutton, the home passed to James in 1875 when Arthur died. James died 12 years later but Missouri continued to live in the home for many more years. The last person to actually live at Hutton Plantation was James and Missouri's daughter Christine "Teeny" Hutton
