Birth4 Jun 1838 Isaiah Miller was born on 4 Jun 1838 in Hagerstown, Maryland.2 
MarriageOct 1860 He married Isabella Jane Moffett, daughter of Abraham Gobble Moffett and Sarah Ann Davis, on the 25th or 28th of Oct 1860 in Lanark, Carroll County, Illinois.3,4 
Oct 1860 He was 22 and she was 18. 
Migration  Isabella and Isaiah's first three children were born in Lanark, Illinois, however following the birth of Francis in 1866 they worked their way west across Iowa. Daughter Carrie was born in Cedar County in 1868 and daughter Nellie in Jasper County in 1872. The last 4 children, beinning with Hattie in 1874 were born in Montgomery County. 
Cens-18801880 The 1880 census recorded Isaiah and Isabella farming in Sherman township with 7 of their 8 children (daughter Hattie died in 1877 at age 3). The children ranged in age from 19 year old William to 9 month old Gracie. The older children worked on the farm and attended school.5 
  Isabella gave birth to one more child after the census was recorded: daughter Minnie, born in the fall of 1881. 
Widowed15 Nov 1884  Isabella died in the fall of 1884 leaving 8 children in Isaiah's care. Their son William had married the previous winter; the other children ranged in age from 20 to 3. . It is not difficult to image that Sarah (20) and Carrie (16) assumed considerable responsibility for the household and the younger children. Sarah did not marry until 1890 and Carrie remained single. 
Land1895  In 1895 Isaiah sold the 240 acres he owned in Sherman township and settled in the town of Red Oak. He continued to own another 120 acres north east of Red Oak which provide him a comfortable income.6 
Cens-19005 Jun 1900  At the turn of the century Isaiah's household consisted of himself and 5 daughters. Carrie (32) worked as a telephone operator, Nell (29), Emma (27) and Grace (20) all taught school, while Inez (18) was still a student. They all lived in a rented home at 705 Prospect St. in Red Oak.7 
  Isaiah is mentioned in 2 county history books. Both state that he served as Montgomery County assessor for many years and was a man of influence in the community. In addition to raising stock his interests included thoroughbreds. He was a member of the Christian Church.8,6 
Death1922 Isaiah died in 1922.9 
Burial He was buried at Evergreen Cemetery in Montgomery County, Iowa.9
