Birth1849 Joel Booth was born in 1849 in Smyth County, Virginia.2 
Marriage13 Sep 1870 He married America Virginia Crenshaw, daughter of George Sanders Crenshaw and Margaret Wilson Buchanan, on 13 Sep 1870 in Smyth County, Virginia.1,3 
Migration1875 Joel and America moved to Washington County, Virginia, in 1875. There Joel purchased 50 acres of land which he cleared before building the family a home.4 
Cens-188010 Jun 1880 The young couple were enumerated farming in the Saltville District of the county in 1880 with Harvey (9), James (4) and Mary (1). Joel's mother, Margaret, was also living with them.5 
Death5 Jul 1889 Joel died of "galloping consumption" on 5 Jul 1889 in Washington County.6 
Burial He was buried at Quarry Cemetery near Saltville in Smyth County.6
