FatherJacob Susong2 b. 18 Oct 1767, d. 18 Oct 1831
Birth28 Feb 1815 Jacob H. Susong was born on 28 Feb 1815 in Virginia.3,2
Childhood  He appears to have been the youngest son in a family that numbered at least 11 children. Jacob's father, for whom he was named, died in 1831. His will left the younger Jacob, who was about 16 at the time, the family residence and 252 acres of land.
Cens-185018 Sep 1850  Jacob does not appear to have married. He was enumerated as the sole member of his household in 1850 at which time he was 32 years old. Jacob was probably living on the land devised to him in his father's will as the census noted that Jacob owned land worth $2,300. Jacob's near neighbors included his brother Mahlon.4
At some point in his life Jacob sustained an injury that left him crippled. It may have occured between the 1850 and 1860 census years. In 1860 Jacob was enumerated as part of Mahlon's household and appears to have lived with Mahlon and his family the rest of his life.5,6,2
Will30 Jul 1891 Jacob wrote his will on July 30th, 1891. He left his estate to Mahlon's children.7
Death22 Jul 1894 Jacob died on 22 Jul 1894 at age 79.3
Burial He was buried at Susong Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.3
Probate Recd19 Apr 1897  The settlement of Jacob's estate was recorded in court two and one half years after his death, and coincided with the settlement of Mahlon's estate (and that of Mahlon's wife Mary Ellen). Jacob's assets included about $5,000 in notes held and interest accrued. After paying burial expenses of $71.75 and miscellaneous other items, the balance was divided between Nannie B. Delaney, J.B. Susong, Louisa Susong, Minerva Robinson and J.O. Susong. The disbursement to Louisa was dated prior to her death.8
Probate Recd25 Feb 1901  A later acounting, filed in court on February 25th, 1901, distributed over $10,000, including $1,697.70 to J. B. Susong, J. O. Susong and Nannie B. Delaney. It also left a like amount to J.R. Robinson, Exor and J. R. Robinson, Admr. This would reflect the shares of Jacob's estate left to Louisa Susong and Minerva Susong Robinson, respectively, who were both deceased.9
