Birth13 Nov 1901 Walter Beattie Jackson Jr. was born on 13 Nov 1901 in Marion, Smyth County, Virginia.4
Childhood Walter spent his childhood in in Marion where his father worked at the local bank. The family lived in what appeared to be comfortable surroundings on Main Street.2
Fath-DeathAug 1912  When Walter was 10 his father died and it is possible Walter and his mother lived for a time with distant cousins, Whitely and Mollie Ryburn in Glade Spring, Virginia.5
Also living for a time with Mollie and Whitley was Walter's older half cousin, Cloydine Dunn, who would later become his wife.5
Ryburn family tradition states that Cloydine worked as a nanny for Mrs. Jackson, but the time frame is unclear.6
Cens-1920  The 1920 census enumerated Walter and his mother living in their own house back on Main Street in Marion.3
It appears Cloydine was living with Mollie and Whitley Ryburn that year although she refused to provide her first name or any birth information to the enumerator.7
Ward  On March 19th, 1923, a settlement record was filed ending Josephine's guardianship responsibilities for Walter. He received $154,785 after expenses in the amount of $10,931 were paid. Among the items listed was $1,614 to the Virginia Motor Car Company.8
Marriage27 Aug 1923 He married Cloydine Ernest Dunn, daughter of Samuel Beattie Ryburn Dunn and Mary Scott Jackson, on 27 Aug 1923 at Ashland, Boyd County, Kentucky.9
He was about 21 and she was about 38.
They were also first cousins, their parents being half-siblings.
Cens-193010 Apr 1930  Walter and Cloydine were enumerated in 1930 living in Marion with Walter's mother. The large stone house, which was by then described as on West Main Street, was valued at $12,000, which was consistent with the homes of other professional people in the neighborhood. Walter described himself as an investment broker. Cloydine listed her age as 35 which was "off" by about 10 years.10,11
Death18 May 1965 He died on 18 May 1965 at the Community Hospital at Marion in Smyth County, Virginia, at age 63.12
Burial19 May 1965 He was buried the following day at Round Hill Cemetery in Smyth County.1,12
Will  Walter's will left his entire estate to Cloydine as his only heir.
1971 Cloydine outlived Walter, dying in 1971, 6 years after Walter's death. The couple did not have children.
