Birth-Saysay 1760 Mathew Buchanan was born say 1760. 
Marriagecirca 1780 He married Elizabeth Edmiston, daughter of William Edmiston Sr. and Agnes Holmes, circa 1780.1,4 
Residence Family tradition (1920) states that Mathew built the first house on the old Buchanan farm and that it was raised on the day of the Battle of Kings Mtn.4 
Exec-Devisee13 Oct 1793  Mathew's father, Andrew Buchanan, wrote his will in the fall of 1793. He left Mathew a share of his land and appointed him as one of 3 executors.2 
  Three of Mathew and Elizabeth's children (William, Mary and Martha) married 3 children of Benjamin Keys and Betsy Stewart.4 

Research Comment:

Early Southwest Virginia Families lists an additional daughter named Margaret for Mathew and Elizabeth. Jean Keys Buchanan's earlier manuscript on the family (1929) does not include a daughter Margaret.

Margaret is buried at Moore Cemetery as are several of Mathew and Elizabeth's known children, however members of at least one other Buchanan family are buried there as well.
