Birth14 Jul 1848 Jack Buchanan was born on 14 Jul 1848 in Saltville, Washington County, Virginia.1 
Marriage10 May 1876 He married Elizabeth Goode Perkins, daughter of William Perkins and Lockey Ann Henderson, on 10 May 1876. They were second cousins as their grandmothers were twin sisters.5 
Cens-Sum  Jack and Elizabeth farmed on the Glade Spring-Saltville Rd. in the Saltville District of Washington County, Virginia, on land that originally belonged to Jack's father. Jack's siblings lived on neighboring tracts. Jack and Elizabeth were the parents of two children, Thomas Preston (T.P.) and William. William and his wife Mary (Moore) lived adjacent to Jack and Elizabeth. In 1910 the younger man was employed by the Mathieson Alkali Co. but by 1920 he appears to have returned to stock farming.6,7,8,9,10,11 
Death1 May 1932 Jack died on 1 May 1932 in Washington County, Virginia, at age 83.1,12 
Burial He was buried at Edgehill Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.12
