  Like her 4 older siblings Nancy did not marry but remained in her parents household in Smyth County, Virginia, probably until their death.5,2,4,7 
  Nancy's youngest brother Charles married in 1916, the year after their mother's death. He inherited the family home and as such remained there with his wife and children. Nancy's older brother Samuel had established his own farm in Smyth County sometime before 1910 and by 1920 both Nancy and her sister Eliza were part of Samuel's household. Like them, he had not married.8,9 
Death2 Jul 1939 Nancy died on 2 Jul 1939 in Smyth County, Virginia, at age 70.1 
Burial She was buried at Rich Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Smyth County, Virginia.3

  6. [S16] The 1870 census day was June 1st, therefore it would have been correct for the enumerator to enter June if Nancy's birth had occured in June 1869. However, in that case she should also have been included in the enumeration. The only reason for the enumerator to have lined out her name would be if she was born in June 1870 and therefore was not technically "present" on the official census day. Her age was listed as 1/12, again suggesting a June 1870 date of birth. But that conflicts with her headstone year and the 1900 census. Also, her younger brother was born in May, 1871 and her older sister in Jan. 1867, both of which suggest the 1869 year of birth is correct.
