  They were the parents of 12 children. 
Cens-185010 Sep 1850  In 1850 eight children remained at home. They ranged in age from 19 year old Sarah to 3 year old David. James was 51; he owned real estate valued at just over $3,000.9 
  The 4 oldest children (Archie, Rufus, Mary and Rosanna) married prior to 1850. Three of them settled in Missouri. Daughter Sarah married in 1851; she also migrated to Missouri. Son John followed as well. 
  Two of James and Barbara's sons, James (30) and Thomas (18), were killed during the Civil War. They died within weeks of each other in the late spring of 1863.1 
Death26 Feb 1869 James died of heart disease on 26 Feb 1869 in Washington County at age 70.4,10,2 
Burial He was buried at Green Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.4
