Birth21 Mar 1875 George Sanders Crenshaw was born on 21 Mar 1875 in Smyth County, Virginia.4,2 
Marriage7 Mar 1899 He married Elizabeth Smyth, daughter of William "Buck" Smyth and Elizabeth Jane McClelland, on 7 Mar 1899 in Washington County, Virginia.2,5 
  A few years later George's cousins, Mary Elizabeth and Sarah Ann Booth, married 2 of Elizabeth's brothers, Charles and Hugh Smyth.  
Milit-Reg3 Sep 1918 On 3 Sep 1918 George registered for the World War I draft at the Nelson County draft board in North Dakota. George gave his permanent address as Meadowview, Washington County, Virginia, but stated that he was farming and that his employer was "The Kelly Farm" in Lakota, Nelson County, North Dakota. The draft registrar noted that George was tall, of slender build, with grey eyes, red hair and poor teeth. George's eldest son, William, also registered for the draft in Lakota on the same date.4,6 
Cens-19207 Jan 1920 However, by January 1920 George and William appear to have returned to Washington County. The enumeration reported that George (age 44), owned his farm, which was not mortgaged. The family also included Betty (42), sons Willie (20), Ellis (15), John (4), Saunders (2) and daughter Bessie (13). In addition, George's 73 year old aunt, Sallie Crenshaw, was living in the home which was described as on Crenshaw and Foster Road.7 
Cens-19307 Apr 1930  In 1930 George's occupation was listed as a miller at a flour mill.8 
  George and Elizabeth raised a family of 7 children, including a daughter Elizabeth who died in 1906 at age 4. They may also have had an additional child who was born after 1900 and died before 1910 but whose name is not known to us. 
Death6 Jun 1960 George died on 6 Jun 1960 at age 85.1 
Burial He was buried at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.9
