FatherWilliam "Buck" Smyth2 b. 20 Dec 1820, d. 15 Aug 1891
MotherEliza T. Logan3 b. 27 Dec 1825, d. 11 May 1857
Birth10 Apr 1855 James Wallace Smyth was born on 10 Apr 1855 in Washington County, Virginia.1
Moth-Death11 May 1857  James was barely two years old when his mother died.
Cens-186028 Jun 1860 Following her death he lived with his Logan grandparents, Caleb and Mary in Washington County, Virginia.4
He probably remained with them for several years as William Smyth joined the Confederate Army during the Civil War. On his return William remarried and started a second family. James was not quite 10 at the time. When James was several years older he and his older brother Logan left Washington County. Logan settled in Texas and James may have headed there as well, however to date I have not located him on any census after 1860.
