Birth30 Aug 1893 John Patrick Ryburn was born on 30 Aug 1893 near Graham's Bridge in Washington County, in Virginia, where his father, grandfather and great grandfather were born before him.2,3,4 
Fath-DeathMar 1898 John's father died in 1898 when John was 4 years old. 
Devisee17 Dec 1898  Shortly thereafter John's grandfather changed his will, leaving the home farm that had been intended for their father to John and his brothers.5 
Cens-19001900  Two years later John was enumerated with his mother and brothers living on the farm in the Holston district of Washington County.6 
Cens-191012 Apr 1910  In 1905 John's mother married for a second time. John's new stepfather was also his uncle, being his father's brother, and probably the person for whom John was named.7 
Religion28 Jun 1914 John and his brother William joined the Rock Spring Presbyterian Church on 28 Jun 1914. John was 20 at the time.8 
  It is likely that he left home shortly afterwards to attend school. 
Marriage8 May 1919 He married Loretta Dorothy Hale on 8 May 1919.3,9 
Cens-19207 Jan 1920 John was enumerated twice in 1920. On 7 Jan 1920 he and Loretta, his wife of 8 months, were recorded in a boarding house at 1701 Nicholson Place, adjacent to Lafayette Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri. John was 26 and listed his occupation as "physician at the city hospital."10 
Cens-192022 Jan 1920  Two weeks later the physicians at St. Louis City Hospital were enumerated and he was recorded again. The hospital was on Lafayette, suggesting John was boarding nearby.11 
Cens-193016 Apr 1930 By 1930 John had established his own medical practice and he and Loretta had bought a home. They were recorded living in Richmond Heights (St. Louis County) with their 10 year old daughter, Emily.12 
Death6 Jun 1953 John died of a heart attack on 6 Jun 1953 at age 59.1 
Burial11 Jun 1953 He was buried on 11 Jun 1953 at Calvary Cemetery in St. Louis, Missouri.1 
  John's death certificate noted that he had served in World War I and listed his address at the time of his death as 1505 Bredell St. in Richmond Heights.1

Ryburn and her daughter whose Ryburn ancestors originally owned the farm; in 1992 Mrs Ryburn lived in an adjacent home. Ms Coletti's notes from her interview include: "John Ryburn.... born in Washington Co. VA near Graham's Bridge, where his father, grandfather, and great grandfather were born. John died of a heart attack in 1953."

  5. [S853] William S. Ryburn will and codicil (recorded 1900), Washington Co., Virginia Will Book 26: 296. William's will, which replaced a previous one, was dated 30 June, 1886. He added a codicil on 17 Dec. 1898. Both were recorded in court on 26 Feb. 1900. J.D.G. Ryburn and W.J. Snodgrass took the oath of executor without security, as directed by the will.
