Divorce14 Oct 1915 He and Margaret Shugart were divorced on 14 Oct 1915.6 
Cens-19201920  By 1920 William's mother Hattie had died, and William and Margaret were divorced. William and his sister Lucy then shared a home on Gladespring and Saltville Road. Their 12 year old niece, Lucy Tartar was also enumerated with them, although she was also listed in her mother's household that same January.7 
Residence William inherited land from his father on the hill where the Old Baptist Cemetery in Washington County stands.8 
Death6 Feb 1942 William died on 6 Feb 1942 at age 63.9,10 
Burial He was buried at Old Baptist Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.9
