They appear to have been the parents of at least 3 children including an infant daughter Tabitha who died at two months of age and a daughter "Bettie A.E." [probably Elizabeth Ann] who died in May 1880 at age 23. Both daughters are buried with William and Esther at the Hayter Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia. William and Esther also provided a home for Mary Ledbetter, the youngest child of Esther's sister Ann who died in 1856.5,3 |
| | Esther's father, James Hayter, wrote his will in Jan. 1859 noting that he had left Esther a tract of over 200 acres in Sullivan County Tennessee on which she already resided. James had purchased the land for $1,500 from Gasper Smith. James also left Esther $1,000 to equal the $2500 in cash or property he devised to her brothers Aaron and James.1 |
