Birth14 Jun 1821 Nancy L Buchanan was born on 14 Jun 1821 in Virginia.1 
Cens-Sum  Nancy was the 7th child and 4th daughter in a family that numbered at least 9 children. Her mother died in 1847 after which Nancy appears to have assumed the role of family caregiver for her father, sister Janet (who was "feeble minded"), and for the children of her deceased sister Elizabeth Harris.

Nancy's father died in 1867; her nephew Samuel Harris died in the Civil War. By 1870 the household included only Nancy and her nephew John Harris who suffered from epilepsy.4,5,6 
Marriage4 Feb 1874 She married John Alexander Duff on 4 Feb 1874 in Washington County, Virginia.7,8 
Death13 Jul 1878 Nancy died on 13 Jul 1878 at age 57.9

Buchanan who transferred her share to J__ Hutten, Wilson Buchanan, Mary Ann Buchanan, Mary G. Cunningham, James Buchanan's heirs and Jos M. Buchanan. Additional payments identified as distributions were paid to John A.P. Hutton & wife ($104) John Harris in right of his wife ($30) and James R. Buchanan ($12).
