James Catchem1

Marriage James Catchem married Martha (?).2
Will8 Apr 1836 James wrote his will on 8 Apr 1836 while living in Washington County, Virginia. He named Andrew Edmondson, Jr. as his executor and instructed him to sell as much of his land as was necessary to pay a trust owed to William Edmiston. The land adjoined Paulser Debusk and Elijah Debusk, and the "Heath" place. James left all of his perishable estate to his wife Martha. He also instructed that following Martha's death the remainder of his land was to go to a specific list of individuals. Although they all carried the surname Catchim, and are presumed to be his children, James did not specify them as such. The list included: Jacob, William, James, and Mary, John, Jane, Edward, Samuel, Liddy, and Elijah [all Catchim], as well as Marthy Cole and Elizabeth Ann Edmiston (who James did clarify was his granddaughter). James also stipulated that his son Elijah was to have "a maintenance" during his lifetime. The will was recorded March 25th, 1840.2
Probate Recd12 Apr 1840  James' belongings were inventoried a few days later. His estate included two mares and colts, four beds and furniture, and assorted personal items.3
