Birthcirca 1841 Sarah Parks was born circa 1841 in Virginia.2,3 
Cens-18507 Sep 1850  She spent her childhood in Washington Co., Virginia where she was the 3rd child in a family that eventually included at least 10 children.1 
Migration  Sarah's parents migrated to Illinois in the mid 1850s.  
Cens-1860  They settled in Bureau County where Sarah found employment as a domestic with Warren and Mary Whaples. Mr. Whaples was a local merchant.4 
Marriage Sarah married Alexander R. Tomlinson, son of Jabeze Tomlinson and Eliza Robinson.5 
  Both Alexander and Sarah had roots in southwest Virginia. Both were enumerated with their parents in Washington County, Virginia in 1850. However while Sarah and her family migrated to Illinois in the mid 1850s, Alexander remained in Virginia. In 1860 he lived with James and Maria Luster [Lester?] in Washington County. Alexander also served with a Virginia unit during the Civil War. 
Cens-Sum  Sarah and Alexander spent the first years of their marriage farming in Crawford County, Kansas.2,6 
  Sarah gave birth to 7 children during the couple's years in Kansas. Two children died young and were buried in a small, rural cemetery in Crawford County. 
Cens-19001900  In the mid 1880s the family returned to Bureau Co., Illinois where their last daughter was born in the spring of 1885. Sarah's widowed father, who had been living in Kansas as well, returned to Illinois and made his home with Sarah and Alexander, as did Sarah's widowed older brother Robert.5 
Cens-191012 May 1910  Sarah's 1910 census entry stated that she was the mother of 8 children, with 6 living. Two children, 27 year old Alice and 25 year old Mary were enumerated with their parents in 1910.3
