Birth5 Sep 1851 Clay Adelle Grant was born on 5 Sep 1851.2 
  She appears in some records as Clay, in some as Adele and in others as Clayadelle. 
Marriage1 Aug 1878 She married David A. Duff, son of Samuel H. Duff and Deborah (?), on 1 Aug 1878 in Washington County, Virginia.1 
Cens-18802 Jun 1880  Two years later David and Clay were enumerated in the Holston District of the county with their 11 month old daughter, Mabel.3 
ChildDeath  Mabel died in June, 1880, a few weeks after the census taker's visit. A son James, born the following January, lived for 9 days. 
Religion2 Jul 1881 Clay was a charter member of Bethel Presbyterian Church and signed the June 1881 petition asking the Abingdon Presbytery to organize the Bethel Congregation as a separate entity (it had previously been aligned with Rock Spring Church).4 
Death22 Mar 1889 Clay died on 22 Mar 1889 at age 37. She had given birth to a son 9 days earlier.2 
Burial She was buried at Bethel Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.2
