Birth | May 1853 | Lucretia Reed was born in May 1853 in Washington County, Virginia.1,2,3 |
Marriage | 4 Jan 1877 | She married Samuel J. Harris, son of Alexander M. Harris and Nancy Ann Vestal, on 4 Jan 1877 in Washington County.1 |
Cens-1880 | Jun 1880 | Three years after their marriage Samuel and Lucretia were enumerated on the 1880 census with two daughters: Ollie (2) and Clara (1). They were farming in the Glade Spring district of Washington County.4 |
Cens-1900 | 2 Jun 1900 | By 1900 Samuel and Lucretia lived in Abingdon township where they were enumerated adjacent to Lucretia's mother and siblings. Lucretia's census entry indicated that she had given birth to 8 children, 6 of whom were living.3 |
The couple's eldest daughters, Ollie and Clara, died of typhoid fever within a few days of each other during the winter of 1896. They were 18 and 16. Bethel Cemetery headstone records also list a stone for an unnamed son who died the day of his birth in 1886 and who does not appear to have been included in the 1900 census total. He was probably a twin to son William. | ||
Cens-1910 | 15 Apr 1910 | The 1910 census more accurately listed Lucretia as the mother of 9 children. All six of Samuel and Lucretia's surviving children lived at home in 1910 and were unmarried. The enumerator noted that the location was "off the main road". Some households on the same page were noted as on "Blue Spring Rd."5 |
