He paid $350 for the property which was located on the waters of the Middle Fork of the Holston River. Robert had the deed re-recorded in May 1853, apparently concerned that some of the property had not been included in the original deed.5,6
Land-Sell22 Apr 1836  On April 22, 1836 Robert and Mary ("Polly"), along with Israel Wolf (and Sally, his wife), James Allen (and Catharine, his wife), all of Smyth County, sold James Harris their interest in an undivided 156 acres in Smyth Co. that belonged to Henry Copenhaver, dec'd. Pafford, Barbry Emaline Hutton and William D. Hutton and E.E. [Eliza] Scott and Charles W. Scott.9

Research Comment:

Elizabeth J. Hutton appeared as a 20 year old in Robert and Eliza's household in 1850 however her age suggests she was born 6 years before their marriage. Did Elizabeth already have a child when she married Robert? Elizabeth did not sign off on the deed when Robert's heirs sold his land, but she may have been deceased as I could not locate her in 1860. It also seems somewhat unlikely Robert and Martha would name a daughter Eliza if they already had a daughter Elizabeth.
