BirthCircacirca 1830 Eliza Ann Hutton was born in Washington County, Virginia, circa 1830.2
Childhood  Eliza's father died when she was about 5 years old; her mother was probably already deceased. Eliza was the youngest child in the family; she had 2 older half-brothers, two older sisters and 1 older brother.
Ward26 Sep 1836  Thomas McCready was named Eliza's guardian on 26 Sep 1836.3
Dickson Hutton's will left Eliza's half-brother Washington in charge of the family. He was to provide an education for the younger children. Eliza also received a share of Dickson's personal property. Washington Hutton remained in Washington County for a few more years and then migrated to Indiana.
Eliza lived with her sister Jane and Jane's family in 1850. In 1856 Eliza's sister Esther Winniford died leaving 5 or 6 daughters. Eliza was enumerated living in the William Winniford household in 1860, no doubt helping Esther's widowed husband care for the girls.4,5
Marriage4 Apr 1866 Eliza married Stephen D. Sanders on 4 Apr 1866.2
Stephen was a widower from Wythe County. He and Eliza settled on his farm where they were enumerated in 1880. The family included 19 year old George [no doubt a son from Stephen's first marriage] and 3 younger children: Nannie (12), William Dixon (11) and Charles (8). Two servants lived with the family.6
