BirthCircacirca 1822 Esther Hutton was born in Virginia circa 1822.2 
Fath-Death1835  Esther's father died in 1835. Her mother was probably already deceased. Dickson Hutton's will left his son Washington in charge of maintaining the family. The will also specified that Esther, Jane and Eliza, and Isaac [their half-brother] were to share the proceeds from the sale of 5 slaves. 
Ward26 Sep 1836  Thomas McCready was named guardian of Esther and her siblings Jane, William and Eliza Ann on 26 Sep 1836 in Washington County, Virginia.3 
  Esther and Jane may have been twins. 
Marriage26 Jul 1846 Esther married William R. Winniford on 26 Jul 1846 in Smyth County, Virginia.4 
Cens-185018 Jul 1850  William and Esther were enumerated on the 1850 census with 3 young children: Mary E. (4), Judith N. (3) and Narcissus (1). William was employed as a merchant. He and Esther also provided a home for two other adults William Oury (28) and Judith Oury (25).5 
Death2 Apr 1856 Esther died on 2 Apr 1856 in Smyth County.6 
Cens-18606 Jun 1860  William's 1860 household suggests he and Esther had 3 additional children after the 1850 enumeration. In 1860 besides 38 year old William, his household included: Judith A. (13), Fannie J. (11), Ann E.O. (9), Martha L. (6) and Mary S. (4). Eliza Ann Hutton (30) [Esther's sister] also lived with William and the children, no doubt helping raise her deceased sister's daughters.7
