Marriage12 Dec 1872 She married second Mansfield Asbury, son of Moses Asbury, on 12 Dec 1872 in Washington County.4
Cens-1880Jun 1880 Eight years after their marriage Lelia and Mansfield were enumerated living in the community of Glade Spring in Washington County. The household included 45 year old Mansfield who was employed as a dealer in general merchandise [general store owner?], Lelia (35), their two children: Hattie, (3) and Charles (2), as well as Lelia's son from her first marriage: William Childers (14). Two servants assisted in the home.8
Lelia's daughter from her first marriage was not present in 1880, suggesting she died young. Also missing in 1880 was Lelia and Mansfield's first daughter, Mary, who died in 1874.
Widowed1883  Mansfield died in 1883, leaving Lelia widowed for the second time. Her younger children ranged in age from 7 to 1.
Cens-19001 Jun 1900  Lelia did not remarry but continued to live in Glade Spring. At the turn of the century she was enumerated as "Mrs. Asbury", a 57 year old widow. Although the census recorded that she was the mother of 7 children only 4 were living. Two of those children lived with her in 1900: 19 year old Hiram who worked as a telegraph operator and 17 year old Wallace. Lelia's daughter Hattie had married in the intervening years; she and her husband Edward Atkins were recorded as a separate household living in the same dwelling.9
Cens-1910Apr 1910  By 1910 Edward Atkins had taken on the role of head of the household. He was employed as a dry goods merchant. Lelia's 3 sons were all present at this enumeration. Charles (31, single) worked as a telegraph operator as did Hiram (29, single). Wallace (27, single) was employed as a produce merchant. Edward and Hattie's daughters Lillian (9) and Sue (7) no doubt livened the household. A servant also lived with the family.10
