Cens-19001 Jun 1900 Twelve years after their marriage Sarah and James were recorded living in the St. Clair District of Smyth County. James was 77; Sarah was 34. She was listed as the mother of 7 children, 6 of whom were living [son Samuel died in 1892 at less than 1 year of age]. They were enumerated as Robert (10), Wm E.G. (7), Virgie (5), Mary (3) and Ray (4 months).5 
Milit-Pens22 Jan 1932  On Jan. 22, 1932 Sarah applied for a Civil War widow's pension. She was 66 years old and lived in Smyth County with her son Virgil. The jacket of the application shows that she received pension payments but the dates are not legibile.2
