BirthCircacirca 1840 Mary Ann Maiden was born in Botetourt County, Virginia, circa 1840.1,3
It is likely Mary Ann died between 1850 and 1860. She was listed as a 10 year old in 1850 but was not enumerated with the family in 1860 and no marriage record has been found for her. Neither was she listed with her two sisters when they were named wards of their father in 1859. The 1900 census indicates that 5 of her mother's 10 children were deceased. The 5 who were living in 1900 can be accounted for and do not include Mary Ann.3

Research Comment:

Mrs. Rollins, in her work The Maiden Family of Virginia and Allied Families, states (p. 633) that Mary Ann married, circa 1858, Sam Broughman. She also states that Mary Ann was the mother of Mary Alice Broughman b. circa 1861 and that Mary Ann herself then died circa 1861. Mrs. Rollins also states that Sam Broughman marr #2 Elizabeth Maiden, Mary Ann's sister.

However, these conclusions appear to be contradicted by the known facts of Elizabeth and Mary Alice's lives, which are presented on Elizabeth's page and cited accordingly.1
