Birth19 Sep 1841 Sarah Ann Byars Dunn was born on 19 Sep 1841 in Virginia.4,5
Marriage26 Dec 1866 She married Thomas Henry Rogers, son of Samuel Rogers, on 26 Dec 1866 at her father's home in Washington County, Virginia.2
Residence1873 Thomas and Sallie (Sarah) apparently spent a few years living in Grayson County, Texas. At least one of their children, Fannie, was born there (1873).
Cens-188021 Jun 1880  However, by June 1880 Thomas and Sarah were living in Wythe County, Virginia, where Thomas taught school.6
Sallie's brother, Samuel Dunn and his family also lived in Wythe County at this time.
Land-Buy16 Apr 1880 In 1880 Sallie's father, Dr. Samuel Dunn, sold several of his children parcels of his farm for $100. The deed for Sallie's share clarified that the land was to be for the sole use of Sarah D. Rogers and was not to be used to satisfy any debts belonging to her husband.7
Residence1882  By late 1881 Sallie and Thomas had left Wythe County and returned to live in the vicinity of Bristol, Tennessee where Sallie gave birth to her youngest daughter in November of that year.8,9
WillMar 1884 However by March of 1884 Sallie Ann was in poor health. She wrote a will that month in which she directed that her money and land be invested in such a way that it would provide for her children but not be available to her husband. She allowed Thomas to receive $13.20 at the end of each year which represented 1/5 of the interest on money from land sold in Texas in December 1883. The money would cease if he remarried. Sallie named Chesterfield Smyth as her executor.10
Death6 May 1884  Sallie died less than 2 months later on 6 May 1884. Her daughter Mary had died less than a week earlier.11
Burial Sallie was buried at Old Glade Spring Cemetery in Washington County, Virginia.11
It appears that in the years after Sallie's death her surviving daughters were raised by Sallie's siblings. The 1900 census found Estella (age 23) living with Sallie's sisters Florence and Emma, and Anna (18) living with Sallie's brother William Dunn. Another daughter, Fannie, married in 1893 but died 2 years later.12,13
