Thomas Henry Rogers1

b. circa 1843
FatherSamuel Rogers2
Birthcirca 1843 Thomas Henry Rogers was born circa 1843 in Smyth County, Virginia.3
Marriage26 Dec 1866 He married Sarah Ann Byars Dunn, daughter of Dr. Samuel Dunn and Jane Beattie Ryburn Edmiston, on 26 Dec 1866 in Washington County, Virginia.3
Residence1873 Thomas and Sallie (Sarah) apparently spent a few years living in Grayson County, Texas. At least one of their children, Fannie, was born there (1873).
Cens-188021 Jun 1880  However, by June 1880 Thomas and Sarah were living in Wythe County, Virginia, where Thomas taught school.4
Land-Buy16 Apr 1880 In 1880 Sallie's father, Dr. Samuel Dunn, sold several of his children parcels of his farm for $100. The deed for Sallie's share clarified that the land was to be for the sole use of Sarah D. Rogers and was not to be used to satisfy any debts belonging to her husband.5
Residence1882  By late 1881 the family had left Wythe County and returned to live in the vicinity of Bristol, Tennessee where Sallie died less than 3 years later.6,7
It appears Thomas may have had some problems with indebtedness. His father-in-law sold land to Thomas and Sallie but stated it was not to be used to satisfy Thomas's debts. And Sallie's own will carefully laid out a limited legacy for Thomas. In addition, Sallie's sister Florence added a codicil to her own will in which she specificially stated that neither Thomas, nor any children from his last wife, was to inherit any of Florence's property. This also suggests that Thomas remarried at some point after Sallie's death.8
