Curry's middle name was either Edgar or Edward. The former was entered in what is presumed to be Curry's own signature on his WW I draft registration. The latter is the name as reported by his wife on his death certificate.1,2
Childhood  Curry grew up on his parent's farm in Marion County, Tennessee. He was the 4th son and 5th child in a family of 6 children. Two of Curry's brothers died young, James in 1891 and John in 1897.5,6

Curry's brother Joe married Gertrude's sister Lula.
Milit-Reg5 Jun 1917  Curry registered for the World War I draft on 5 Jun 1917 in Marion County. The form described him as tall and slender, with blue eyes and brown hair. He was employed as a farmer and was reponsible for his wife and 2 children. The address was reported as Whitwell, Tennessee. Curry's brother Ben registered in Marion County on the same day.1
Cens-192012 Jan 1920 The 1920 census recorded Curry and Gertrude farming on East Valley Pike in Marion County. Three children were also present: daughters Edna (7) and Mary (1) and son Robert (4). Ben and Joe Davis [Curry's brothers] were enumerated as the adjacent households.9
Cens-193019 Apr 1930  Ten years later the household was enumerated again. This time the address was listed as East Valley Road, not Pike. Curry and Gertrude were both listed as 39 years old; they had married at age 20. A second son, 8 year old William, had joined the family. Curry stated that he owned his own home and that it was a farm. He did not own a radio (one of the questions unique to the 1930 census).7
