 Minnie was Joel's second wife. 
Cens-191028 Apr 1910 They lived in the Goodson district of Washington County, Virginia where the 1910 census recorded the household. Minnie was 39, which was two years younger than Joel's eldest son Edward, who was also living with them. Joel and Minnie's daughter Mary was 7; another daughter had died two years earlier. Minnie's mother was living with them too. She was the same age as Joel.4 
Widowed2 Jan 1926 Joel died in January, 1926. 
Cens-19301930 By 1930 Minnie was living in the District of Columbia where she boarded in a home at 5123 Conduit Road. A 3 year old child, Hugh Hortenstine, lived with her but his relationship to her, if any, was not stated. Minnie was 59 so he was probably not her child.5 
  Minnie's daughter Mary Virginia Hortenstine was enumerated working as a nurse at the nearby Florence Crittendon Home.6
