Birth29 Aug 1866 Wiley Fuller Buchanan was born on 29 Aug 1866 in Virginia.3,1 
Childhood  Wiley grew up with his younger siblings on the family farm in the St. Clair District of Smyth County, Virginia.4 
Migration1885 In 1885 his parents moved the family to Atchison County, Missouri.5 
Migration1891  Wiley's father is reported to have died in 1888; his mother moved the family across the Missouri River to neighboring Nemaha County, Nebraska, in 1891.5 
Land-Buy13 Nov 1891  There, in November 1891, JWP and FW Buchanan purchased 80 acres of land from Thomas J. Crummel and his wife Christina for $3,230. The buyers were to take possession on March 1, 1892. The purchase was subject to existing mortgages of $600 and $500 and was described as the W 1/2 of the SW 1/4 section 8.6 
Land-Sell1 Aug 1892  Then on 1 Aug 1892 FW Buchanan, single, granted a warranty deed to JWP Buchanan for an undivided 1/2 interest in the above mentioned property. Consideration was $776.60 and still subject to the same mortgages of $600 & $500 plus a mortage to Crummel for $1150.6 
Migration  Wiley apparently sold his share of the Nebraska land in preparation for a move to Texas. 
Marriage2 Sep 1893 He married Josephine Withy Smith, daughter of Richard B. Smith and Margaret Chapman, on 2 Sep 1893 in Houston, Texas.1 
Cens-190015 Jun 1900  Wiley and Josephine were recorded living in Houston when the 1900 federal census was enumerated. Josephine reported that she was the mother of 1 child, who was deceased. Wiley listed his occupation as "lawyer". His sister Carrie was also living in the home; she was employed as a music teacher.3 
Migration  Shortly afterwards the couple moved to Colorado. 
Resid-Sum  Denver City directories listed Wiley at a variety of different addresses over the next ten years, including: 876 Humboldt (1903), 3842 Gallup Ave ["Zuni" added after address] (1904-1907), 1206 S Washington (1908), 950 Adams (1909), and 1260 Race (1910-1911).7,8,9,10,11,12,13,14,15 
Occupation  The same series of directories listed his occupation as: commercial traveler, travel solicitor, solicitor-Denver Republican, or commercial traveler-Denver Republican. 
Cens-1910Apr 1910  However the 1910 census listed Wiley's occupation as "salesman". The same census enumerated Josephine and the 3 sons born to the couple after they left Texas. Wiley's sister Carrie was no longer a member of the household.16 
Cens-19201920  Wiley and Josephine did not remain in Denver. By 1920 they and the 3 boys were living on Cedar Street in Buena Vista, Chaffee County, Colorado, where "Wyley" was employed as a salesman and oldest son Elliott worked as a telegraph operator for the railroad. Wiley's sister Minnie had settled in Chaffee County some years earlier.17 
Residence Wiley is reported to have settled in Salt Lake City, Utah, prior to 1937.1 
Wiley's family lived in both Missouri and Nebraska, but as an adult Wiley resided for some years in Harris County, Texas. Find Harris Co. on the Texas map (also accessible via the Misc. Locations link in the menu bar at the top of any page).
