Birth8 Apr 1876 John Hood McCamant was born on 8 Apr 1876 in Hood County, Texas. John's birth date was reported on his death certificate as April 8, 1874 however the year is not consistent with his age on any census record. John's WWI draft registration form, which he completed, listed his birthdate as April 8, 1876.2,3,4 
Childhood  John's family moved from Hood County to Jones County, Texas when John was very young. 
MarriageDec 1899 He married Clara Pearl Lewis in Dec 1899.1 
Cens-190011 Jun 1900  John and Pearl settled in Grant County, New Mexico Territory, as did John's brother Alexander and his wife Lula Mae. The two families were neighbors in 1900.2 
Cens-191013 May 1910  By 1910 Alexander and Lula Mae had moved to Lincoln Co. (New Mexico) but John and Clara remained in Grant County.5 
Military12 Sep 1918  John registered for the World War I draft at Gallup, New Mexico on Sept. 12, 1918. He was employed as a stockman and his nearest relative was listed as his wife Clara Pearl. The form described John as of medium height and build with dark brown hair.6  
Widowed1918  Clara died in late 1918. 
Marriage He married Louise Eaton.1 
Cens-192010 Jan 1920  John and Louise were enumerated in Gallup, McKinley County, New Mexico, in 1920. Louise was originally from Vermont. John was employed as the county sheriff [his brother Alexander served as the county sheriff of Lincoln Co.]. John and Louise's household also included her daughter Ruth and John's daughters Nina and Myrtle.7 
  The southwest does not appear to have suited Louise. In 1930 she and Ruth were enumerated in Worcester, Massachusetts where Louise managed a hotel.8 
Death16 Nov 1939 John died from diabetes on 16 Nov 1939 at Pine Springs Ranch in Navajo County, Arizona, at age 63.3 
Burial He was buried at McCauley Ranch in Winslow, Navajo County, Arizona.3
