Washington Co. Virginia (1850 Census Surname Project)
Waverly W. Barbe's 1850 Census of Washington County, Virginia Annotated was published in 2000. Although a landmark text, it left the maiden names of many females unidentified. Ten years ago Jack Hockett, believing these women should not remain a mystery, began the research necessary to uncover their identity. With the assistance of Tom Colley and others (see files for credits), many of those maiden names have now been identified. Mr. Hockett has generously shared the results of those efforts. It is hoped that in turn you will lend a hand in solving the remaining "not founds."
