Marriage License29 Dec 1847 He and Elizabeth Davis obtained a marriage license on 29 Dec 1847 in Madison County, Alabama.1,5 
  They were first cousins. 
Residence Samuel and Elizabeth appear to have settled in Jackson County, Alabama, after their marriage. 
Cens-185011 Nov 1850  There they were enumerated in November 1850 with Lenora Ann, age 1. Samuel was farming land that he estimated to be valued at $1,000.4 
Cens-18605 Jun 1860  Ten years later the census again recorded the family. This year two children were present: 11 year old "L.A." and 8 year old William. Samuel's land had increased in worth to $5,000 and he also owned personal property valued at $4,000.6

Davis (grandson of Samuel Davis). It states that Elizabeth Davis, daughter of William and Ann (McDaniel) Davis married Smith Criswell.

The settlement included a list of credits and charges against the estate and a specific list of each of the legatees including the heirs of Samuel's deceased children. The children of Hanna Davis Cresswell were identified, including Samuel S. Cresswell.
