Abstract of the Will of Jane REID:

"First I give to my family of black people the sum of" $1,100 in cash... "my four horse wagon, all of their own beds, bedsteads and clothing and all of the last crop of grain that shall be made on my farm during my lifetime to be equally divided..."
To Stark - $50.00.
To James - a gray colt and rifle gun.
To Rankin - a gray mare colt.
To Francis - a young sorrel mare's colt.
To Parler - a old sorrel mare's colt.

All the rest of the estate, both real and personal, after debts & funeral expenses to be equally divided among her nephews & nieces.

Balance of estate both real & personal to be sold immediately after Jane's death

Codicil:
"Whereas I Jane REID have by my Will bequeathed a colt to each of the following slaves emancipated in the Will of my brother James REID deceased to wit: Rankin and Frank and it being deemed better to sell said colts in my lifetime and to give them the proceeds thereof - - I do hereby authorize James S. FAIRES as my agent to sell said colts and to hold the proceeds of the sale..." 28 Mar 1854.
