Will of Samuel Hathorn
dated 11 March 1834; proved 26 May 1834

I, Samuel Hathorn of Washington Co., Virginia

Just debts and funeral expenses to be paid

Wife Margaret, the use of all my lands in the county and in the county of Mason [now in WV]; also personal property including slaves during her lifetime

Having advanced to oldest sons David & James each a horse, saddle and bridle worth $100, I direct that each of my other children, both sons and daughters, receive a horse, saddle and bridle worth the same amount.

Sons - John, Reed, Bracken Dill, Samuel & Thompson to receive their devise when turn 21

Daughters - Eliza, Jane, Polly, Ann & Martha to receive their devise when turn 20; daughters also to receive a bed & furniture, a bureau and 2 cows at the same time. These last to be charged against their part of estate.

If wife dies before youngest child is of age personal property is to be sold and the proceeds divided equally amongst the children.

If wife died after youngest child is of age then land to be sold; each tract may be sold separately. Slaves also to be sold. All proceeds to be divided equally amongst the children.
