John Buchanan of Smyth County, Virginia

- just debts paid

- daughters Ann, Jane and Sally and son John Alexander be made equal in personal property with what I have given my 4 married children; if surplus remains it is to be divided between Ann and Jane

- daughters Ann, Jane and Sally a horse, saddle and bridle, 2 cows

- daughters Ann and Jane all my farming utensils, also to jointly hold 90 acres of land I now hold to be laid off to include the dwelling house, out buildings and spring, and 10 acres to be laid off in the northwest part of my farm for timber

- balance of my land be sold to highest bidder with credit of 12 or 18 mos

- to daughter Polly Ward’s 6 children jointly and equally the 1/6 part of the proceeds arriving from the sale of my land with the exception of $50 which amt I convey in trust to my executor Charles Shannon for the benefit of Polly which sum he may advance to her and to her only

- to my 2 granddaughters in Illinois, daus of my son William, 1/6 part of the monies arising from the sale of the land

- balance from sale of land be equally divided among my 4 children to wit: Margaret Crenshaw, Rosanna Whitten, Sally and John Alexander

- to son John Alexander bay mare by name of ____

- further direct that my wagon, young cattle and horses and ˝ of flock of sheep and all property not already disposed of be sold on 12 months credit and used to defray funeral expenses; excess divided between Ann, Jane, Sally and John Alexander

- to 3 daughters Ann, Jane, and Sally a new bureau each, which I had made for them

- executor to leave for benefit of family the present growing crop and ˝ of flock of sheep

- appt. Capt Charles Shannon exec.
