I Jonathan S. Davis…
1. wife Mary Jane Davis my watch and my horse billy.
2. executor to sell land lying in Washington Co, VA.. one parcel or tract being wife’s portion of the Ireson land, and another tract being a part of the Gobble tract, in such a manner as to purchase with the proceeds a tract of land for the proper use of wife during her natural life.
3. the tract of land last mentioned if executor should purchase one go to my children to be equally divided between them after the death of my wife, and if executor doesn’t dispose of the first mentioned tract of land it is my will that my wife have the profits of said tract during her natural life and after her death I will that the said last mentioned tract of land be equally divided among my children.
4. to my wife my Negro girl Florence and her increase during her natural life and after the death of my wife the said Negro girl and her increase to be equally divided among my children.
5. give to wife all household and kitchen furniture and two cows and calves.
6. desire that all books miscellaneous and medical as well as my stock of medicines be sold and the proceeds applied to the payment of my debts. I also desire that my saddle be sold and the proceeds applied in the same way.
7. executors to collect all the debts due me by note or otherwise and the same to be applied to the payments of my debts or so much thereof as may be required… balance to be applied towards the education of my children as nearly equally as possible.
8. desire my children to live with my wife… wife to be guardian without giving security.
9. appoint Francis M. Davis exec.

     At a court held for Washington Co the 26th day of July 1847 this authenticated copy of the last will and testament of Jonathan S. Davis was exhibited in court…. Ordered to be recorded. Francis M. Davis took oath as exec…. Bond in the sum of $1,000 with Jacob Lynch, Peter S. Ha_by and Archimedes Davis his securities.
