James Hope of Washington County, Virginia

Just debts to be paid

Beloved wife Margaret, full and free rite and possession of the plantation with all farming utensils and everything in the house except such goods as will be hereafter disposed of …. all the slaves with their increase except Jack… five horses with their spring colts… also other animals… all for the term of 5 years for her use for the purpose of raising and schooling the children.

I further leave to Margaret the house I now live in and the third of the land or its profits during her life; also one fourth of my moveable estate except properties otherwise disposed of to my children.

To son Adam one third of the land I now live on, one horse, his saddle, one rifle, one bed and furniture.

To daughter Agness one mare named Kate, her saddle, one cow worth $12 beside the increase of the cow that her grandmother left her; one bed and furniture.

To son Nathaniel my plantation on Cumberland Tennessee

To son John one third part of land I now live on

To son James Wilson one third of the land I now live on at his mother’s decease

To each of my daughters not yet named I leave one bed and furniture, also the price of a common bureau when they arrive at lawful age

All the remainder of my estate I allow to be equally divided among my children.

Appoint David Lowrey and Hugh Mahaffey executors
