Will of Nancy Davis
Dated 12 April 1873; recorded 26 Feb. 1883


In the name of God amen I Nancy Davis of the County of Washington and State of Virginia being of sound mind and memory and considering the uncertainty of this frail and Transitory Life do therefore make ordain Publish and declare this to be my last Will and Testament that is to say.
1st to my son John G. R. Davis I Give and Bequeath All of my household and kitchen furniture Consisting of three Beds & Bedding, one Clock, one Bureau one Book Case & also my stock consisting of cows, Hogs sheep & Horses and Enything [sic] else that I have or that my Hereafter come to me from any Estate Both Personal or Real Cash or Bonds Insurance policies & to have and to hold and to Dispose of as he may choos [sic].

2nd I likewise make constitute and appoint my son J.G.R. Davis to be Executor of this my last will and Testament hereby Revoky [sic] all former wills by me made. In witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name and affixed my seal this the 12 day of April 1873.

The above written Instrument was subscribed by the said Nancy Davis in our Presence and Acknowledged by her to each of us and she at the same time Published and declared the Above Instrument so subscribed to be her last will and testament, and we at the Testaters Request and in her Presence have signed our names as witnesses hereto.

At a Court begun and held for Washington County Feb. 26th 1883.
     The last will and testament of Mrs. Nancy Davis dec’d was produced in Court and proved by the oath of John B. Hamilton one of the subscribing witnesses thereto and the signature of D. O. Bradley was proved by the oath of John B. Hamilton and ordered to be recorded. And on motion of J.G.R. Davis the executor named in said will who took the oath of an executor prescribed by law, and together with John Roberts his security entered in to and acknowledged a bond in the sum of Three hundred dollars conditioned as the law directs. A Certificate is therefore granted him for the probate of said will in due form.
