James Vance of Washington County, Virginia

1. to be interred in a decent manner

2. just debts and funeral expenses to be paid

3. tract purchased by Joseph Vance, John Vance and myself from John Kestner [?] to be sold with my other lands - Joseph and John to draw their third of the value of that tract

4. executors pay to pay son Andrew Vance $100 as a debt due Andrew by me; $50 in c ash and 1 lot of books is to discharge the $100 debt and $50 in cash for his not having received as much assistance from me at the time of his marriage as my other children

5. executors pay the American Bible Society $40 as a donation; $40 to the General Assembly Board of Foreign Missions of the Presbyterian Church

6. daughter Elizabeth Logan to remain in my house until such time as my land is sold or until she may decide to leave

7. daughter Elizabeth Logan to have ˝ of the wheat in the barn and ˝ that is coming into harvest and as much of my farming land as she can support herself & those of her children that are still at home until my land is sold

8. daughter Sarah Apperson [?] equal share of my estate after previous items paid; also Hetty Newhouse the same

9. executors Joseph Vance and Andrew Vance; they are to sell personal estate after my death but not to sell land until can get a fair price for it. After sums of money previously mentioned are paid, then all my children to share equally in proceeds of estate
