Marriage11 Oct 1887 She married first Abram Greenfield Allison, son of John Beattie Allison and Sarah Ellen Wright, on 11 Oct 1887 in Rocky Mount, Virginia.2 
Cens-19001 Jun 1900 Twelve years after their marriage Mattie and Abram were enumerated living in the Glade Spring District of Washington County. Three children, John, May, and James, as well as Abram's widowed aunt, Martha Ligon, completed the household.3 
WidowedOct 1900  Four months later, in October 1900, both Abram and Jimmy died. 
  Martha Ligon then conveyed her property to Mattie in exchange for care during her lifetime.4 
Cens-191016 Apr 1910  Accordingly, the 1910 census recorded Mattie with her 2 surviving children (John, 21 and Mae, 20) and the 75 year old Martha Ligon.5 
Cens-19201920 Ten years later Martha was not present, but Mattie was now the head of a household that included her daughter Mae, Mae's husband George Keys, and their two young children.6 
Marriage27 Apr 1922 She married second Edward M. Atkins on 27 Apr 1922.7 
  He had been previously married to Mattie's first husband's cousin, Hattie Pearl Asbury
Death6 Oct 1937 Mattie died on 6 Oct 1937 in Glade Springs, Washington County, Virginia, at age 67.7 
Burial She was buried in the Allison-Keys square at Old Baptist Cemetery, Washington County, Virginia.8
