Birth26 Feb 1867 Abram Greenfield Allison was born on 26 Feb 1867 in Washington County, Virginia.4 
Fath-Death21 Jan 1879 Abram was 11 years old when his father John Beattie Allison died in January 1879. 
Devisee27 Jan 1879  John's will, which was recorded in Washington County court later that month, instructed that Abram and his siblings were to share equally in the division of their father's personal property and real estate.3 
Cens-1880Jun 1880 Abram was enumerated living at home with his mother and siblings in 1880; he was recorded as Joseph G., which is consistent with the fact that he often used "Joe" as a nickname later in life.5,6,7 
Ward1881  Abram's official guardian was his father's brother Samuel D. Allison, but he is reported to have been adopted at some point by his aunt Martha (Allison) Ligon.8,9 
  It is clear that at least for a few years Abram and his brother James lived with Martha and her husband Benjamin Davis Ligon. Benjamin was responsible for the boys' education.8 
Marriage11 Oct 1887 He married Mattie Lee Taylor, daughter of John Lee Taylor and Roxie Ann Taylor, on 11 Oct 1887 in Rocky Mount, Virginia.4 
Occupation  Abram was a farmer.10 
Cens-19001 Jun 1900 Benjamin Ligon died in 1896. Abram's household then included Mattie, their 3 children and Abram's widowed aunt Martha.10 
  Abram died 4 months later, less than 2 weeks after the death of his youngest son James. Family tradition states that Abram never knew Jimmy had died.11 
Death13 Oct 1900 Abram died on 13 Oct 1900 at age 33.4 
Burial He was buried in the Allison-Keys square at Old Baptist Cemetery, Washington County, Virginia.12

She added that they must be the parents of May and John, although she always thought their father's name was Joe [Martha Keys added a notation that Abram's nickname was Joe].
